HOT FIRE DAMAGES BUILDING, DRY ICE TO THE RESCUE

Washington DC- Tyson's Corner, one of the nation's exclusive shopping malls located near Washington DC experienced a fire from a laundry bin just outside of the building next to the Ritz Carlton. The fire smoldered for over 4 hours before finally illuminating the night with flames up to the 3rd floor. Pre-cast panels with marble inserts cover these upscale shopping facilities. When the contractor was looking for options to remove the smoke and soot damage from these walls, sandblasting was thought to be the only treatment. Due to the marble and glazed windows, this method just was not practical.

NCRI was called in to perform the cleaning using Dry Ice Blasting. This technologically advanced cleaning method has proven to be successful on construction projects of this type. With dry ice's evaporation rate, post cleanup is nonexistent. Dry Ice Blasting accomplished the restoration in a matter of a few days without damaging the pre-cast panels, marble or glazed windows. And this exclusive area was beautified once again. When powerwashing and sandblasting simply won't do, Dry Ice Blasting can put the chill on the cleaning.

HYATT REGENCY GRAND OPENING THREATENED BY WATER DAMAGE

One of the nation’s leading hotel chains came face to face with disaster when their nearly completed nine-story Hyatt in Wichita, Kansas was hit with a seventeen inch rainfall and winds packing gusts of 70 mph.

The carpets were laid, the furniture in place, and the new employees were beginning their training.

As the last stages of construction were coming to a close, the storms hit. With the onslaught of the rains, it became painfully clear the roof and upper floor windows were not sealed in preparation for this type of test from Mother Nature. Water began to run down each floor of the hotel causing damage to walls, ceilings, and carpets. The humidity levels were critically high and the threat of mold and bacteria forming was imminent.

NCRI wasted no time in utilizing its large inventory of drying equipment, including large truck-mounted desiccant dehumidifiers that brought the humidity down to appropriate levels. Turbo fans were added in all rooms and on all floors to expedite the drying process. NCRI, through its state of the art methods and equipment, was able to get the luxury hotel back on track for its grand opening.

LANDMARK CHURCH DAMAGED BY CONSTRUCTION FIRE

NCRI Responds

A spark from roofing equipment being used to repair a clay-tile roof ignited a blaze that nearly destroyed the 77-year-old Plymouth Congregational Church. Over 75 firefighters worked for hours to control the four-alarm blaze.

Its Gothic limestone walls, a neighborhood landmark, were all that was left of the sanctuary. NCRI was called in to restore the church back to its majestic splendor. NCRI was on the scene within hours with its rapid response team. NCRI was able to stabilize the steel supports and save the limestone structure. The remains of the historic sanctuary were covered by shrinkwrap to prevent further damage and offer a controlled environment for the restoration teams inside. The damage to the grand pipe organ offered an especially difficult challenge due to the large size of the organ itself and the extent of fire damage it had suffered. But the restoration experience of NCRI brought special technologically advanced restoration techniques to the church, resulting in the saving of the beautiful historical grand pipe organ.

Over the next few days NCRI technicians worked day and night in order to get other rooms of the building ready for Sunday's traditional service. NCRI is proud to report that not one service was missed due to the fire, because our disaster response teams were able to restore other areas of the church to accommodate the congregation.
